GeoKatalog 2 is the world's most comprehensive geoscientific map catalogue.
For reliable, up-to-date information on available maps from all over the world, GeoKatalog 2 is indispensable, for geoscientific institutions, universities, libraries, map shops, engineers, government offices and industry.
The catalogue was started in 1975 by Siegfried Bischoff and Fred Grupp.
They continually developed and improved the catalogue until it achieved its present functional form. Since 1993, GeoKatalog 2 is published in English. Geographer Mr. Winfried Maigler has taken on the editing responsibility of GeoKatalog 2 from 2006 until 2018.
We are happy to announce that our newest addition to our team Anke da Silva Santos (Dipl.-Geogr.) has taken over editing the GeoKatalog 2.

Decline in the number of subscribers to the print version of GeoKatalog 2, including the GeoKartenbrief issues, has led us to the decision to stop producing the print versions from 2016 onwards.
Installment 96 & GeoKartenbrief issue 373 of subscription year 2015 are the last hardcopies that have been sent out to our subscribers.
On request, we would be glad to send our customers free pdf-versions by e-mail instead. This way we will keep this unique traditional compendium GeoKatalog 2 alive.
Besides this, we will continue sending our regular information on new titles, map series, and cartographic publications of special interest by email to you, as we did before.
For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be glad to give you any additional details you may need.

Catalogue System
The system of GeoKatalog2 does not follow a current geoscientific classification but was elaborated for practical use. The main division is a geographical, the subdivision a thematic one so that every entry in GeoKatalog2 is assigned to both an area and a subject.
The system is supported by numbers. When combined they yield a 7-figure code number for each area/subject unit.
Geographical Division
The 3-figure geographical numbers designate and order the sections of GeoKatalog 2. In general, the first figure indicates a continent, the second a continental region or greater area, the last a specific country or area. Example:
600 = Americas
640 = Middle America
645 = Nicaragua
Please note: Geographical division comes before political division.

Please note: Geographical division comes before political division.
Thematical Classification
The catalogue sections wear the 4-figure thematic classification. The first figure indicates the main topic and becomes more specific towards the third digit.
Example:
2000 = Physical Geography
2300 = Geology
2340 = Tectonics
The last figure generally is 0, except for numbers 1111 - 1116, where it indicates a specific medium.
